Children's
House Montessori embraces the Montessori method of
education and adheres to the American Montessori Society
Code of Ethics. The practical application of the
Montessori method is based on the natural human tendencies
to explore, move, share with a group, to be independent
and make decisions, create order, develop self control and
abstract ideas. In keeping with this philosophy, the school offers
the following:
-
The focus
is on the children's learning, not the teachers'
teaching.
-
The
classrooms are designed to meet the changing needs,
interests, abilities and development of the children
in the class.
-
The
children progress at their own pace, moving on to the
next step in each area of learning as they are ready.
-
The
children manipulate concrete models that bring
abstract concepts to life which allows children to
learn with deeper understanding.
-
The
children are free to make choices in the classrooms as
long as they are respectful to themselves, others and
the environment and materials.
-
The
children pursue knowledge and activities because they
are interested, not for external rewards or pressure
from the teachers.
-
Mixed age
groups and a family style setting allows the focus to
be less on the teachers and more on the entire
community of children.
-
The
environment is conductive to children having a genuine
fondness for one another and are free from the
needless interpersonal competition for attention and
prestige.
