About Children's House Montessori

Philosophy:

The famed
Montessori Method developed as the result of years of observation and study of young children and the way they learn. This educational program draws on the scientific finding that even months-old children have an innate capacity and special need to learn about the world around them.

The discovery of special stages of learning and the materials and equipment required to foster learning at each stage is a feature of this way of schooling. The approach recognizes that young children progress through each learning stage at their own pace and that children of different ages will teach and learn from one another.

Children's House helps individuals learn and grow at their own rate with consideration for differences in age, temperament, drives and capabilities. In the school's carefully prepared environment, children are free to move about and to choose their own materials and activities. They are asked to treat themselves, others and the classroom with care and respect.

The learning materials are divided into five major categories; Sensory-motor, practical life, geography, language and mathematics.
There is also ample time devoted to exploring art, music, movement, and the world of nature. Most children who enroll in the program for the full three years worked with all the materials and are fully prepared for first grade.

Staff at Children's House Montessori

Each classroom is directed by a Montessori certified lead teacher paired with a qualified assistant teacher. All teachers have completed their college degrees which compliment their specialized Montessori training. Teachers actively seek to expand their knowledge in Montessori and early childhood development. Because of the belief that the home-school partnership is crucial to the student's success, the staff provides parents with many educational opportunities to help develop  parenting skills and increase knowledge of the children's Montessori experience.

Environment at Children's House Montessori
Children's House is located at a convenient West Lafayette site near the Purdue Research Park. The interior space is specifically designed for Montessori. Each of the classrooms is equipped with child sized shelves, cubbies, furniture, and has its own refrigerator, reception area and restroom. All classrooms have direct access to the indoor gym and kitchen. The landscaped fenced-in outdoor area is used for gardening, play and nature studies.
